ECB Policies Strain European Union

As individual countries within the European Union struggle with record deficits pushing some to the brink of bankruptcy, European Central Bank policies intended to boost the region’s largest economies in Germany and France, are having a detrimental effect on smaller jurisdictions. While few expect the EU to break apart, there is no question that dealing with the unfolding debt crisis will mean painful, unpopular measures such as budget cutbacks and higher taxes.
