The Canadian dollar gained 0.11 of a cent to 103.02 US cents after receiving a boost from rising oil prices as fighting intensifies in Libya. Fears that oil supplies could be affected have pushed crude for April delivery higher by more than two dollars to $106.84 a barrel.
Meanwhile, gold prices are also shooting higher with the April gold contract on the Nymex up $15.20 to US$1,443.80 an ounce, up about US$6 from last Thursday’s latest record high close.
