Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou can expect some straight forward language when he meets with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Wednesday. Both leaders were instrumental in preparing the way for a deal last week that would see the European Union provide the backing to prevent a disorderly default for Greece.
Papandreou’s surprise that his government would hold a referendum caught observers off balance and has thrown the deal into question. Eurozone leaders have heaped scorn and derision on Papandreou for injecting fresh uncertainty into the future of the Eurozone at a time when calm was greatly needed. Calls for the ouster of Greece from the Eurozone have grown as a result of the Greek government’s actions.
